December flowers

Well, here we are in summer already. How did that even happen? The weather is certainly not pretending to be summery... it's windy, cloudy, often raining, and if it weren't for the late light evenings I'd think it was still September. Luckily the garden has proceeded pretty much as normal, and even if the vege garden is a little slow the flowers are giving it their all.

Above, clockwise from top left: Cecille Brunner rose, pink penstemon, white gladioli nanus, fejoa flowers (looking suitably festive), sweet peas, peony poppies, lupins, star flowers on a small succulent, pink poppy, lavender, gypsophila, peony. Middle: penstemon, gladioli and white hydrangea make a pretty bouquet.

I'm hopefully not too late to join in with Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. I've missed it for the past couple of months so I'm trying to get back into the routine! I'm also going to try and get back to some regular blogging, as it's been pretty bare around here. See you again in a day or two!

  1. Dear Ruth,
    Welcome back again..
That is right that we're on the same season, it is also windy, cloudy and rainy here. Your December flowers are beautiful as always, it is always lovely to see them. I am jealous that you have beautiful flowers all year round. :) Many thanks for always showing them..
I wish you great summer then, with love.

  2. Hi Ruth, lovely to see your summer flowers, they are warming the soul on a cold December day in London :-) Have you got any sign of a summer flowering hellebore this year too? Would be nice to hear if you get any again! Have a great Christmas :-)

    1. Thanks Helene! Well, I had to shift that hellebore in spring and I haven't seen any sign of flowers on it so far. I'm sure it will come right for winter, maybe if I'm lucky even before that... I'll keep an eye on it!

  3. You have so many shades of pink! And all so pretty. I've never seen a gladiolus with that coloring before.

    1. Yes, the gladioli are quite amazing! They are a good size too, being the dwarf ones they don't flop over in the garden and are good for picking. Haha I certainly do love pink flowers...

  4. It's always good to see what's blooming on the other side of the world to remind us of what's to bloom here in a few months.

All those pink shades make a lovely display.

    1. Thanks Jean! Yes isn't that the great thing about the internet, it's always spring or summer somewhere in the world and now we can all share it with each other!
