Art for art's sake

I spent my Sunday turning scraps into art! These little manila tags were the perfect size for an afternoon's play. Of course I had more important things to be doing, but it was nice to take a break from all that and just make something for the fun of it. After that I baked some muffins. Sundays rock!

Crafty

My holidays are nearly over. What have I done with the time? Well, not a hell of a lot mostly. I've had a cough and cold for most of the time, which I am more than slightly annoyed about, although it's guaranteed to be all cleared up by Tuesday when I go back to work. I visited the family in Timaru and also visited the 97-year-old Caroline Bay Carnival (more about that, and photos, in another post - or check out my Flickr page). I also spent a lot of time just sitting around, reading, cooking, eating, watching Buffy on DVD. Recharging.

A couple of days ago my creative energy began to come back, and I picked up the crochet I've been working on since... June? August? A while! But I'm determined to finish it now, and sew the squares together into a bag. Then I'll send the bag to Caren, as a swap for the one she sent me in... September? October?

Crocheted in chenille yarn, in retrospect it's probably not the best fibre to use being quite bulky (and not stretching at all), but at the time it was the best range of colours I could find.

All the patterns are from Jan Eaton's book, 200 Crochet Blocks for blankets, throws and afghans.

All I have to do is sew the squares together, 4 to a side, make sure both sides are the same size (they won't be since, as a beginner, I used different hooks all the way through), sew the sides together, make a lining, and make a handle. Do you get the feeling it won't be as easy as it sounds?

A trip to Spotlight for supplies inspired this cute vintage look pincushion! I love pincushions and have been meaning to make myself one for ages - the ones I have are years old and hideous - one is an ugly tartan hat and one a wicker duck with a cushion in its back.

More pictures of these are at my Flickr page.
